June Newsletter

Welcome to June!

Some of the children may recognise  the child in this photo! I took it last summer on a walk we took down to the river, and it reminds me of warm, lazy, carefree days. We are so looking forward to many more days like this.

The Montessori quote I added to the photo, for me, epitomises the joy of childhood and the connections that exist between us – early childhood educators, the children, and their families.  It also leads us to think about one of the main Montessori philosophies: Cosmic Education: The Cosmic Education is primarily about order and includes everything from the nature of the developing child to the rising of the sun, and the solar system; all things in the cosmos are connected (Walls, C.H.,2008).

June is the month when we say goodbye to our kindergarteners going into grade 1, and other children leaving to attend different programs. It’s a time of joy as we see how much the children have grown and progressed, but we will never forget them, and that’s another reason why the quote is so fitting. “We shall walk together on the path of life, for all things are part of the universe and are connected with each other to form one whole unity.” Dr. M. Montessori.

.Painted Lady Caterpillar Larvae

These were ordered and should be here soon! This is always a fun and exciting event in the classroom as the children observe the larvae eat, crawl, grow, turn into chrysalis and eventually emerge as butterflies. It is a day of celebration when they are released!

Graduation and End of Year Celebrations:

We are practising some fun friendship songs and planning a Celebration of Success – what this celebration will look like right now is, unfortunately, unknown due to COVID – but we will keep you updated. If we can not do an in-person celebration, we will video and send the link.

July and August:

Plans are underway for a fun-filled July and August.  Our themes will be Stampede and Funfair Games, and Beach Fun and Picnics!

More information will become available as we finalise the details.

The new school calendar:

The new school calendar will be issued shortly – however if any of you need  dates of closures for July and August now, please email me, and I will get that to you sooner rather than later.

Reminders!

Fees are due on the 1st of the month. Thank you!
We politely ask that masks are worn by all adults at drop-off and pick-up.
AHS covid screening forms to be sent in daily, before school, either on the Seesaw app or by email.
Please do let us know if your child has any skin conditions/bruises hidden by clothing – this saves on a phone call to check with you about we have discovered.
Please send sun hats, bug and sunscreen, and a light jacket daily. Sun hats, sun screen and bug cream is of particular importance.
Outdoor shoes and runners are ideal as we like to go for walks and to the playground. I know summer sandals and crocs are favourites, but playground rocks tend to get between the toes in open-toed sandals, and it can be uncomfortable.
Water bottles – every day please, as we will be spending more time outside now that the weather is warmer.
Please email or call Mrs. Divya or Mrs. Joce if you would like to discuss changes to your child’s day at school, for example, nap time changes. We do like to get a fuller picture of your, and your child’s needs and this can’t always be conveyed at the door, due to time constraints. Thank you so much!
Work towels to come in at the beginning of your child’s week. Please write your child’s name on the towel.
Bedding to come in at the beginning of your child’s week, in a named bag, preferably a reusable bag with handles and not a plastic bag as the handles tend to break on the plastic bags very easily.
Please label everything with your child’s name!

New and improved outdoor space!

We are SO excited to see how the children react to the newly upgraded and renovated outdoor space. Divya, Godwin and Alex have set up a safe and beautiful space for the children.  If you would like to bring bedding plants for the rectangular garden, that would be amazing. The children love planting and watering.

Birthdays:

Charleigh – look out for a birthday celebration email.

Music class with Ms. Tessa.

In music we have been learning about instruments from around the world. We learned about spoons which have been used since the time of the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans. We learned about the washboard which comes to us from West-Africa. We hear this instrument in Zydeco music. Canada has some famous washboard musicians; it can be fun to look up videos of this music at home! We have also introduced the ukulele and learned about its Hawaiian history. In the coming weeks we will learn more about the Tambourine. We will also be continuing to explore rhythm and dynamics in music by using our bodies.

Thank you, as always for supporting our Montessori, but most of all, thank you for the patience and understanding that you have shown as we all deal with the ever-changing pandemic and the curve balls it throws us.

The Angel Wings Team.

Mrs. Divya, Mrs. Joce, Ms. Nicole, Ms. Michelle, Mrs. Diana, Ms. Tessa.
